There are four theories of motivation:
1. hierarchy-of-needs theory
2. two-factor theory
3. expectancy theory
4. equity theory
Which one makes the most intuitive sense to you? Give an example of
this theory in your life.
Why do you find this motivation theory appealing?
I find hierarchy of needs theory most intuitive and realistic. This theory based on a motivational theory that fulfill the basic needs of a person in real life. The main focus of this theory is to reach the highest level after being satisfied with each level of needs.
Once when i was a kid i had lost my way to my home for 1 full day after which my family found me. During that 24 hours, the few hours i was worried about my way to home but after that my need shifted to physiological needs. I was really Hungry at that time and the only thing i was thinking about was food and water. I was not concerned about the finalcial security or the other needs just the needs to fulfill my survival.
One more example :-
One of my uncle is a successful businessman who have a well secured work, family, shelter and food. So he does not focuses on physiological need b or safety needs, all of these needs are fulfilled but this person's motivation is self actualization needs and see what other things world is offering.
Hierarchy of needs theory is appealing because it identifies five level of needs ofva human being i.e, physiological needs, safety needs, love and belongingness, esteem and self actualization.
We cannot live without the physiological needs eg.food, water, shelter. Next is safery needs which is essential ti secure security in job, financially and physically. Social needs is important for the social connections. Esteem needs essential for the respect and desire which motivates to do better and the last level is self actualization which is realising one' potential and everyone strives to come to this highest level.
