Is privacy a human right?
Yes, privacy is human right declared under the UN Declaration of Human Rights. Privacy is one of the foundations of human rights in modern society. The right to privacy is one of the cornerstones of human dignity that shield our lives from unwanted intrusions and limits access to our personal lives. As the modern world is increasingly shaped by the use of technology, the significance of protecting individual liberty and privacy only becomes more important. Technology may have made our lives easier, but it also comes with its own complex set of challenges that threatens the right to privacy of individuals through constant monitoring by governments and big corporations. Therefore, the importance of privacy as a right in order to protect people from institutionalized surveillance and censorship has grown manifold. It is, for this reason, the United Nations under Article 12 of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) 1948 has privacy as a fundamental and human right that prohibits arbitrary interference in the personal lives of the people.
