Expert Solution

Yes, if different methods are being used it can be decreasing live load method. These reducing can be done on the basis of probability method. This method is used very widely at the time of designing the column. When the structure is being designed two types of load is being acting on it which are gravitational load and live load. The live load may include the people moving or the assets which are being used in the structure. The controlling principle in this method is that the are of loading is being increased which reduced the impact of the live load. It is so used for the Construction of very tall buildings and is being seen that the columns designed for the base is broader as compared to the one that is related to the upper portion of the building. As the top floors would have less live load acting on them. The other methods to design the column in such a way that the load can be beared is to use more reinforcement or increase the area on which the load is acting. It would also depend upon the grade of concrete or cement being used. But once as if the structure is constructed the best method so that the column design would be maintained is to reduce the live load that is being acting on the structure because the gravitational load cannot be altered and live load can be changed.
