If a small amount of Ferrous Ammonium Sulfate is spilled when transferring it from the beaker to the Erlenmeyer flask, how will this affect the calculated molarity of KMnO4?
Molarity (M) of a solution is defined as the number of gram moles of the solute per litre of the solution.
M = moles of the solute (n)/ vol of the solution in liters (V)
n = mass of solute (m)/ mol. wt of solute (M)
or we can write M = m/ (V X M)..............................(1)
As we can see .... molarity is directly proportional to the mass of solute
As a fraction of ammonium ferrous sulfate got spilled the molarity will be less than the estimated molarity of ammonium ferrous sulfate
the volume of KMnO4 required to dissociate the ammonium ferrous sulfate soln will be less
Hence molarity of calculated KMnO4 will be more
also M1 V1 = M2 V2
