What are forces felt by an ion in an electric field, an electron in a wire carrying current, and a magnet (and its component parts) in a magnetic field and why are these forces important.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Forces felt by an ion:

An ion is basically a charged atom. It may be an anion (negatively charged) or a cation (positively charged). When place in an electric field, anion moves towards the positive field direction and the cation will move towards the negative field direction.

Force felt by a magnet:

The north pole of a magnet gets attracted to the south pole of the field and the south pole of the magnet get attracted by the north pole of the field. That is why compass needles rest in a given direction at a given location. The earth's south pole attracts the north of the compass needle and vice versa.

Forces in Electricity and Magnetism :-

A moving charge particle can be stopped or forced to move in an electrical environment at electron moves in an atom. A magnetic force is applied on a moving charge particle by a magnetic field.

Force Experienced By an electron in an electric field

Force experienced by an electron in a magnetic field

   or

These Forces are very important for the existances of nature for example atoms exist due to electrical forces.
