Have you had to educate yourself more on a physical or mental illness in order to further understand what someone is going through?
Yes, it was for ADHD- attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
I was doing my first year bachelor's in Psychology when my sister and her child started to live my parents. Very often I heard my sister yelling at her kid for study problems. I slowly started noticing the fourth grade kid and found that she had a lot of fidgety behaviour, was not able to concentrate on what was taught, lack of attention, very easily distracted and also finding difficulty to sit in a place for more than five minutes.
When classes for ADHD were taken, I paid more attention to identify the case with her and the treatments effective.
Small modifications brought a progress in her academics. She was not yelled for her fidgety behaviour nor for leaving the place in minutes. Distractions were kept minimum. Learning techniques were experimented- story telling, chunks, learning with rhythm were able to draw more of her attention and helped in her memory retention.
