which spinal nerve innervates the main important muscle for our respiration, and to which plexus of the peripheral nervios system does it belong to?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer to that first question is Diaphragm.

Diaphragm:- it is a dome shaped muscle that separates the chest and abdominal cavities. Contraction and relaxation of this muscle helps in respiration.

Phrenic nerves are of two types

I) Left phrenic nerve

ii) Right phrenic nerve

These phrenic nerves arises from C3,C4,C5 cervical nerves of the spinal cord. These nerves innervates into Diaphragm by passing through either side of heart and thoracic cavity.

Hence, if anything happens to these phrenic nerves leads ti difficulty in respiration. (OR) if anything happens above the source of these phrenic nerves i.e C3,C4,C5 cervical nerves leads to difficulty in breathing.

Answer to the second question, to which plexus it belongs to?

The phrenic nerves arises from cervical nerves C3, C4, C5 are belongs to cervical plexus of the spinal cord. The cervical spinal nerves from C1 to C4 present in the neck segment.

Poisonous nerve gases such as sarin work by breaking down AChE (acetylcholinesterase) at nerve-muscle synapses. What do you think is the effect of nerve gas on the muscles? Why? Be sure to include a discussion of the steps that occur in the nerve and motor end plate during transmission at the neuromuscular junction and the role of AChE in normal synaptic transmission. Propose a way to counteract the effects of nerve gas (besides getting rid of the gas itself).
