Capital punishment is a necessary form of justice and it doesn't do us well today. Despite the fact that by early 1975, thirty states had passed new death penalty laws the crime rate in the USA is still very high. According to data from the Death Penalty Center(2016); states without the Death Penalty have had consistently lower murder rates. (Answer) Capital punishment essentially considers the worst criminals who might loathe their own lives and make the lives of others difficult. These are criminals who might be psychologically more accepting of death since it would be the end of a life full of tribulations.
On the other hand, when capital punishment is discontinued, a criminal would have to undergo a life sentence instead. If the criminal fails to make parole, their life sentence would span almost two decades. Spending that much time without one’s freedom is to some people, worse than the idea of capital punishment.
If these prisoners are fortunate enough to make parole, they would have to have the fortitude to find employment, rebuild their economic standing and perhaps even their social reputation. All of these tasks are easier said than done for most of these people with a criminal record and a tarnished reputation.
This would make life after being a criminal seem a lot more difficult than a life with an assured death penalty at the end. Perhaps such repercussions have caused potential criminals to be a lot more cautious about their behaviour.
Since there are viable statistics that actually prove this theory, it would be essential for all delinquents to not only understand what life after parole is like but, to also knows that the lack of a death penalty can be more fastidious than a guillotine.
