Ans:) Mental health system in our country today does not function well and is not able to meet the challenges of mental illness which account for one third globally.existing care and treatment for mental illness failed to adequately address the crisis of mental healthcare.mental health is the world's disability which is caused by all adult health problems resulting in enormous personal sufferings and socio-economic costs.

mental illness is a pandemic and is a major global challenge. Despite the increased availability of antidepressants during the past few decades limited efficacy ,high treatment costs have result in an enormous unmet need for the treatment of depression.

for example 350 million individuals experience depression anually. on average it takes almost 10 years to obtain treatment for symptoms and more than two third of depressed individuals never receive adequate care. Suicide is the leading cause of death now a days due to inadequate mental health system in our country which results in enormous social disruption.in addition there is limited access to mental healthcare caused by scarce mental health resources and financial hardship, social stigma associated with seeking speciality mental health services.
