Anaerobic respiration is considered as a highly inefficient process as compared to the aerobic respiration because of the following reasons:
1, The net ATPs produced in anaerobic respiration is only 2 ATP per glucose molecule. But ATP produced in aerobic respiration is 38 ATP per glucose molecule.
2. Anaerobic cellular respiration produces lactic acid as a by-product in our muscle cells, which causes muscle cramps.
3. In anaerobic respiration, glucose is partially oxidised while in aerobic respiration, glucose molecule is fully oxidised.
