In: Biology
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a by-product in aerobic cellular respiration, produced partially in this part of the process:
Select one:
Production of ATP in glycolysis
Production of NADH in glycolysis
Kreb's Cycle
Production of oxygen in glycolysis
Production of pyruvate by splitting glucose
Answer:
Option C is correct. Kreb's cycle or also known as Citric acid cycle is a step given by the chemical reaction:
(2 Acetyl Co-A + 3NAD+ + FAD + ADP + PI CO2 + 3NADH + FADH2 + ATP + H+ + Coenzyme-A)
The first even CO2 produced in aerobic respiration is in Kreb's cycle.
Option A is incorrect. Because it is not necessary that in every step where ATP is produced the CO2 will be produced. And also there is not CO2 production step in Glycolysis. The whole reaction of Glycolysis is as follows:
C6H12O6 + 2ADP + 2PI + 2NAD+ 2 Pyruvate + 2ATP + 2NADH + 2H+ + 2H2O
Option B is incorrect. Because there is not the production of CO2 in glycolysis.
Option D is incorrect. Because of the same reason as that of Option A & B.
Option E is incorrect. Production of Pyruvate by splitting Glucose molecule is nothing but Glycolysis of One Glucose molecule to 2 Pyruvate.
