Highlight one artist, group, or particular style that was highly popular in the 2000's. What contributions did this artist, group, or style make to the overall hip hop industry? How has the artist, group, or style changed as it has crossed over into the mainstream?
One of the hip-hop artists that I followed growing up was Snoop Dogg. Real name, Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. Born in 1971 Snoop Dogg is a west coast rapper who is nominated for several Grammy Awards and has won various MTV music awards and other notable awards as well. Snoop's career started when he was featured on Dr. Dre debut single and Solo Album. Snoop Dogg has since sold 23 million albums in the US and 35 million Worldwide.
From 1992 to 1998, Snoop was signed with Death Row Records and released two Albums that went viral and some of the songs were Rated Platinum. After leaving Death Row in 1998, Snoop signed with different records over the years.
Snoop Dogg is a hip hop legend who is also a social Activist, Basketball Player and has done so much for the upliftment of the African-American community. Recently Snoop Dogg was also bestowed with his own Star at the Hollywood Walk of fame after which he released his 18th solo Album, 'I wanna thank me'.
Apart from music, Snoop has also appeared in several TV shows and movies and has been a part of the roast shows most notably Donald Trump.
Snoop Dogg is a great mentor and has offered many newcomers to be a part of his record label called Dogghouse Records. Snoop Dogg has also started various youth programs and rec basketball leagues to provide a platform for the underprivileged kids. Snoop's swift laidback delivery has helped hip hop reach new heights in the west coast region.
Snoop Dogg has been a hip-hop symbol for years now and his impact has only increased since the dawn of the social media age. Snoop has been collaborating with various artists, brands, and companies. Snoop is always in the news because of his political views and how he wants to bring change for the betterment of the African-American community and also shedding light on the injustice being done to the black community. Snoop Dogg is one of the most Mainstream rappers in the industry today and people follow him on various platforms not just for his music but also for his wisdom and knowledge he likes to pass to the younger generation
