BAJADA: Its is formed by deposition. A bajada consists of a series of coalescing alluvial fans along a mountain front. These fan-shaped deposits form by the deposition of sediment within a stream onto flat land at the base of a mountain.
PLAYA: It is formed by erosion. Usually found in Bolsons.
PLAYA LAKE: a transitional category between playas and lakes, essentially a flooded playa. It gets flooded by the drainage of Bolson or by rain. It remaining dry 75% of the year. So, they are occasional lakes.
INSELBERG: It is formed by erosion. The word inselberg translates to “Island Mountain” in German. Inselbergs arise from rocks which erode at a slower rate than that of the surrounding rocks. The landform consists of an erosion-resistant rock which protects a softer rock such as limestone. The resistant rock remains isolated as ongoing erosion erodes the less resistant rock around it.
