There are four evels of measurement, namely, Nominal, Ordinal, Interval and Ratio. The basic level is the Nominal level because here the number of persons or objects or events is counted whichvactscas a form of data.
Ordinal data is the one where persons, events or objects are arranged according to a rank alloted to them like rankings on military.
Interval data is the data which is gathered on an equally occurring intervals. Like the level of cynism an individual can have or intelligence quotient. The drawback of interval data is that it lacks a true zero.
Ratio level if measurement entails all the properties of interval data and also have a true zero.
Most of the psychological researches are done on interval scale. Researches in the area of physical sciences are on interval and ratio scales.
