a sample of krypton gas occupies 95.0 mL at .500 atm. If the temperature remained constant what volume the krypton occupy at 5.00 atm, .05000 atm, 555 torr, 5.00 torr and 5X5 10 to the negative 2 torr

Solutions

Expert Solution

Ans :- a) For 5atm

Given P1 =0.5atm

V1 =95ml

P2 =5atm

From boyle's law

when temperature is constant we have

P1V1 =P2V2

0.5 x 95 =5xV2

V2 = 9.5ml

Therefore at 5atm krypton occupy 9.5ml

b) For 0.05atm

P1=0.5atm

P2=0.05 atm

V1 = 95ml

V2 =

We know P1V1 =P2V2

0.5x95=0.05xV2

V2 = 950ml

Therefore at 0.05atm krypton occupies 950ml

c) For 555 torr

P1 =0.5atm

P2 =555 torr

Now 1 torr=0.00131579atm

555 torr = 0.73atm

Therefore P2 =0.73atm

V1=95ml

We know

P1V1 =P2V2

0.5x95=0.73xV2

V2 = 65.06ml

therefore at 555 torr krypton occupies 65.06ml

d) For 5 torr

P1=0.5atm

P2 = 5torr

Now 1torr =0.0013157atm

5 torr = 0.0065atm

Therefore P2 =0.0065atm

V1=95ml

V2 =?

P1V1=P2V2

0.5x95=0.0065xV2

V2 = 7307.6ml

Therefore at 5torr krypton gas occupies 7307.6ml
