Questions are from the Textbook "The Environment and You"
ans. stratosphere is the layer of earth's atmosphere just above the troposphere and below the mesosphere . lt is the second largest layer.
stratosphere pollution means depletion of the ozone layer (ozone hole) by certain compounds like oxides of nitrogen, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). the sources of air pollution in the stratosphere are from military aircraft, rockets, supersonic transport or nuclear bombs. and from the water insoluble substance that reached to the stratosphere. the mass nitrogen oxide from the supersonic transport.
ans. troposphere is the lowest layer of the earth's atmosphere between the surface of the earth and about 6 to 10 kilometers above the surface. the pollution in troposphere mainly caused by the human activities. the pollutants are emitted by the cars , power plants, industrial boilers, refineries, chemical plants , fire, and many sources. mainly the pollutants present in the troposphere layer is due to the human activities which causes the pollution in the troposphere.
ans. acid rains is caused by when compounds like sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are released into the air. these substance reaches very high in the atmosphere where they mix and react with water, oxygen and other chemicals to form more acidic pollutants known as acid rain.
