1. What is EPCRA and what impact did EPCRA have on environmental audits (include dates and history)?

EPCRA is the legislation titled 'Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act. In specifies the requirements that must be followed when storing hazardous chemicals and the reporting that must be carried accordingly. In short, this Act requires that any hazardous chemical that is used or stored in the workplace be maintained in a safe manner that follows set protocol. Such facilities must maintain a material safety data sheet. This sheet must be made available during an environmental audit, which has made a significant impact on the way that such audits are carried out. Dating back to the end of January, 2001, the procedure by which environmental audits were carried out were impacted by EPCRA. The EPCRA is one of 13 provisions upon which audits are carried out, so while such audits are not predicated only upon this Act, 2001 ushered in a while new set of reporting and regulatory requirements related to hazardous waste storage that must be followed.

The National Environmental Policy Act is designed to require all federal agencies to integrate certain environmental values into their decision making process. Basically, it requires all agencies to consider the environmental impact of their proposals, and to provide alternatives to those actions that are more environmentally friendly.
