Impact of industrialization
on the battle of waterloo and somme:
- Weapon development:
Industrialization led to weapon development, which affected how
soldiers fight. At both Waterloo and the Somme, soldiers had
weapons but there is a huge difference in the types of these
weapons, the effect they provide, and the expertise they required
to be used.
- At Waterloo, soldiers used musket,
cannon, and black powder weapons. While at the Somme better
artillery weapons developed like howitzers, caliber, and machine
gun, which allow the soldiers much more gun rounds with greater
distance than what Waterloo soldiers had.
- Machine guns used at the Somme can
fire 600 bullets in one minute while rifle gun at Waterloo had 15
shots a minute. The increasing number of factory production in the
industrial age allow military powers to had mass amounts of weapons
with better ammunition forextremely cheap prices.
- Rise of new transportation systems:
It helped in mobilizing these resources more effectively, which
influence war leaders to have a huge number of these
powerfulguns.
