THE IMPORTANT OF BASIC MATH SKILLS FOR HEALTHCARE WORKERS----

1. For giving medication - when the patient is given medication what will be the dose for that particular patient ( say for example for an adult one drug is prescribed as 5mg/kg/day dose ,so if the patient weight is 60 kg the dose will be =5×60 = 300 mg/day ), time interval( for example if there is written q8h means the the drug is to be given in every 8 hours . Means the patient can take = 24/8 = 3 times in a whole day), maximum allowance dosage( for example adult maximum daily dose for Paracetamol is 2000 mg. If the medication is present in 500 mg tablets. So maximum tablets can be taken = 2000/500= 4 tablets).

2. For calculation of infusion rate, IV flow rate, drip factor.

3. For justifying the time of elimination of drug. ( by calculate the half time of the drug).

4. If any epidemic, pandemic is occured for estimation of spread of the disease ( morbidity, mortality, daily affected persons), for calculation of success rate of the treatment given for that disease by drawing statistical graphs.
