what is Feminine Mystique and why was it important??
Feminine Mystique is bringing females from their societal assumption in traditional role as house work, rearing children, marriage to think further beyond, where they need further education, careers and even have political voice.
The term was coined by Betty Friedan, who wrote the book "Feminine Mystique" during the period of post World War II. This book became one among the best selling non-fiction books. It all happened when she noticed in reunion where all the females where not satisfied with what they do as we call societal assumption and wanted a sort of freedom in US. In 1960-1980s this was a talk in the public. Later, Friedman and her collegues started an organization: National Organization for Women (NOW) in 1993.
When we consider individuals rather than people, everyone has their own dreams, goals and visions for life to become more educated, to have the best careers, to have fame and authority. Inspite of considering females as person with self-esteem, their emotions and desires were suppressed and prior importance was always for man and his fame. Even though this all started in 1963, still the impact is present in all our lives.
