The key components to a healthy weight loss are as follows :
1) physical activity
Increased physical activity is an essentials l component of a comprehensive weight-reduction strategy for overweight adults who are otherwise healthy.
2) Behaviour and lifestyle modification
These may include stand-alone treatment of reduced calorie intake and modified eating habits or may be combined with medical nutrition therapy, nutrition education, exercise programs.
3) Self monitoring and feedback
Self monitoring of food intake is often associated with a relatively immediate reduction in food intake and consequent weight loss.
4) Behavioral treatment like reinforcement techniques, for example, buying an item when goal is met.
Reasons why it is difficult to lose weight
A. First, overweight and obese patients do not have the calorie-burning capacity for sustainable weight loss. An obese patient simply cannot exercise enough to lose weight by burning calories. They have to slowly and gradually increase their exercising capacities and that perseverance is difficult to achieve.
B. The body fights back with survival-based biological responses. If a person limits calories, the body slows baseline metabolism to offset the calorie restriction, because it interprets this situation as a threat to survival. The body sends out surges of hunger hormones that induce food-seeking behavior.
C. Different gut microbiota pull different amounts of calories from the same food in different people. Hence, an obese person may eat only as much as her lean counterpart and still gain weight.
My own healthy weight loss resource could be developing healthy diet and exercise habits. Cleaning the house, making the bed, shopping, mowing and gardening are all forms of physical activity.
