Phobia can be defined as the illogical, intense, persistent fear of specific object or a social situation that causes extreme distress and interferes with normal functioning. The three different categories of phobia Agoraphobia, specific phobia (irrational fear of an object), social phobia (provoked by certain social or performance situation, social anxiety disorder)

Anxiety may be defined as the vague feeling of dread or apprehension as a result of which response to the external or internal stimuli are altered and there are behavioral, emotional, cognitive and physical symptoms associated with anxiety. Some techniques to break the negative thoughts of anxiety are avoiding the anxious thoughts, positive distractions, splashing face with cold water, rubber band on wrist, shouting

The difference between phobia and anxiety is that phobia has a clearly identifiable external stimulus that represents danger to the person whereas anxiety doesnt have a clear identifiable external stimulus and hence termed as Generalized anxiety disorder

Relationship between Phobia and anxiety: Phobias come under the category of anxiety disorders as anxiety is one of the symptoms of phobia.
