The postpartum period defined as the duration of six weeks after
childbirth. It is very important period for the mother as she will
experience many changes including physically emotionally and
psychologicaly.
The Physical Changes during post partum
includes .
1)Lochia - it is the vaginal discharge produced after vaginal
delivery. 3 days after the delivery red in colour with few blood
clots.We can observe an increased secretion of lochia in morning
and gradually diminishes after 6 weeks .
2) Body temperature may be slightly increased up to 37.2 ° C
.
3) Breast discharge - during breast feeding there is a chance of
leaking breast fluids .
4) Breast encouragement - it occours due to increased circulation
.
5) Discomfort in the perineal area
6) Uterine contractions
7) Urination contractions
8) Increased perspiration
The most common psychological problems associated with new mothers during the postpartum period are depression, anxiety, and insomnia. After the first week and month most of the woman may experience the feeling of intense joy, exhaustion, fatigue, confusion, loneliness, disappointment, anger, fear, and happiness .
