What does it mean when we say an animal is risk averse?
Animals who are reluctant to take risks are said to be risk-averse. Animals that take big risks when tracking down food are more likely to die out than those that play it safe. Sometimes risky strategies put animals to the verge of extinction thus moderate strategies for searching food or preys is the better strategy as in that case they at least don't lose their lives. Herbivores and animals with an ample food source are more stable compared to predators and animals that live in harsh environments.
