What does Tenure & Promotion mean? What does it involve? Describe what a faculty member needs do to properly prepare for this process.
tenure can be defined as the privilege that is only provided to the faculty member who has exhibited the professional accomplishments in the different areas such as research, teaching, scholarship, services through which the College or University can be assured that he will continue to serve the university or the College in all these fields at a higher level of performance which is suitable for senior facility members. On the other hand, the promotion is only related to the joining of the faculty at a higher level. For instance, the lecturer is promoted to the sr. lecturer position.
Tenure & Promotion involves the proper evaluation of the performance of the faculty member and the expectation of how well and how long that person can exhibit the expected level of performance.
In order to get prepare for the tenure and promotion process, it is important for the faculty member to get involved in the different teaching, research, and other administrative activities and duties. He or she has to look at the different terms and conditions imposed by the University and College for tenure and promotion. Getting nominated for this is important and it is usually done either by the Principal or the department head. Thus the faculty member needs to have a good relation and interpersonal association with the department heads. But the ultimate decision is completely based on the eligibility criteria and the evaluation of the performance of the faculty and the expected level of performance from him or her by the decision-makers or the selection committee.
