What is (VSS) steady state uptake rate? What does a Higher vss mean and what does a lower one mean?
The VSS means Volume of distribution at steady state. It is defined as the actual tissue and blood volume into which a drug is circulated and the relative binding of drug to protein in these spaces.
The formula for Vss is:
Vss = blood volume + (tissue volume× unbound fraction in blood / unbound fraction in tissue)
The Higher VSS means the drug is more disseminated in the tissue than the blood plasma and the Lower VSS means the drug is more disseminated in plasma than the tissue.
