How does civil unrest facilitate the spread of disease?
Ans : Civil unrest is a violent riot or strike attributed to a variety of social, political, economic, and environmental causes in which the participants become hostile toward authority. Civil unrest typically involves damage to property or injury to other people. This may lead to the displacement of large populations into temporary settlements or camps with overcrowding. There will be bombing, shelling and other violence damage agriculture, healthcare buildings and infrastructure. This leads to food shortage and breakdown of healthcare systems, flight of trained staff, failure of existing disease control programs and sanitation services in turn increasing starvation, malnutrition and increased exposure to disease vectors. These populations will be more vulnerable to infection and disease because of high levels of undernutrition or malnutrition, low vaccine coverage, and long-term stress. These conditions, which are encountered during civil unrest facilitate spread of diseases.
