The following patients are assessed for any kind of domestic violence.

1. Adolescent girls, women in all age group in a healthcare setting

2. Children who are under the care of any domestic maid or own parents

3. Adolescent boy or men presented with any kind of signs of domestic violence.

4. Any patients showing any clinical signs that indicate abuse or violence in home that in includes alcoholics or drug abuse injury, ER rating disorder, pre history of psychosomatic complaints, any history of trauma, chronic pain syndrome during pregnancy or any kind of pssycholodical disorder including suicidal tendency, depression, anxiety or sleep disorder etc.

Questions to be asked:

1. Screening must be undertaken in a safe zone. All the domestic violence related question must be asked in private place.

2. Word choice must be in a non judgemental way or without using any threatening type of words.

3. Always ask question that are direct, specific and is easy to understand. For an example, do you feel safe in your present relations or spouse?

4. The ‘Screening Questionnaire of WSH & WC’ must be used in children more than 2 years of ages.

Intervention will be in many aspects in case of domestic violence

A. Medical injuries in case of hospitalization for protection or medical interventions use “Adult Maltreatment Syndrome” as per ICD-9-CM 995.81 protocol.

B. Reiterate the following messages to give care to the patients

1. No one deserves abuse

2. It is not your fault at all, only abuser is responsible for that

3. There is no excuse for such kind of violences.

4. It is very difficult for you to leave you situation thus we are here to help you.

Safety plans at work place including keeping threatening emails or voicemail messages for legal action in the future. The personal safety plan including keeping all the documents in self care, medications and prescriptions keeping in safe place.

Healthcare teams include physicians, nursing personnel, councellor will be the major healthcare personnel involved in the case of domestic violence.
