How to file a complaint
OSHA - Occupational Safety and Health Administration is created to ensure safe and healthy working environment for employees in an organization by providing training, education and assistance . It is an agency in United States Department of labour . It was established by Congress on December 29 , 1970 under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHAct ) which President Richard M . Nixon signed into law . After World War 2 the new labour unions played an important role in workers safety , and with the economic expansion of 1960's and rising injury rates there was political pressure which led to establishment of OSHA . It became effective on 28 April , 1971 , George Guenther was appointed as first director of agency.
2. Standards - The OSHA standards were issued to prevent the limits of hazardous chemical exposure and employees access to hazard Information. The major standards of OSHA are Construction ,General Industry , Maritime and Agriculture standards , which are designed to protect workers from serious hazards like it includes requirements for employees to provide protection to prevent employees exposure to some infectious disease . Since 2000 , OSHA had issued many Standards for safe and healthy environment of employees.
3. Enforcement Policies -. Enforcement Policy of OSHA targets inspection programs , responds to fatalities , catastrophe and complaints.OSHA conducts regular inspection in the workplace to determine if there is any violations of federal safety standards . It also impose penalties , and fines ,if there is any violation made by employer.
4. How to file a complaint -. If any employee have been punished or discrimated against his rights , then he can file a complaint within 30days of the alleged reprisal of complaints . The employees can file a complaint online- using the online complaint form,or by visiting OSHA office , or through Telephone , Fax or email.
Afterwards , OSHA will contact the person to determine the situation or to conduct an investigation . A person must respond to OSHA follow - up contact.
