Chapter 1 describes the evolution of operations from craft production to mass production to lean production, as modeled after the Toyota Production System (TPS). Using resources in addition to the textbook and those provided in this class, please investigate examples of other organizations that are attempting to adopt lean production. In particular, address "who" is adopting lean, "why" are they adopting lean, and "what" has been the result.
Initially lean was adopted by organizations that are involved in huge manufacturing costs so that the wastage resources can be identified and removed but slowly with the evolution in business insight all types of organizations related to call centers and health care find it essential to adapt this tool. The main purpose of lean manufacturing is it supports in value added production by reducing all factors that do not add value to the production process. Lean production processes are basically used for increasing profits along with customer satisfaction. The goals derived from these processes are providing quality products to customers as per their need and demands, eliminating the waste because it involves use of time, resources and place but does not add value to the product hence it is an additional cost to the organisation, eliminating extra time and overall cost by being specific about the production as per customer needs. Lean production helps in greater productivity and throughput, reduced cycle times, reduced operting costs and smooth and effective operational activities.
