Chapter 1 and 2 "The Revolt of Engineers": Layton describes the approaches of the four founder societies of engineering professionals--ASCE, AIME, ASME, and AIEE. In 3-4 sentences, state which of these organizations would be most appealing to you to join based on its membership criteria, stances on professional behavior, and relationship to business, and why. In 1-2 sentences, state which would be least appealing and why?
Answer:- Honestly for me it would have to be ASCE. I am persuing a degree in civil engineering so this would be the best fit for me. I also think the way society was designed appeals to my ideals of engineering . Members should always be aware of their overriding responsibility to the public good.
Stances on professional behaviour:- Purpose of the group is the advancement of the science and profession of Civil engineering and the enhancement of human welfare through the activities of society members.
Relationship to buisness:- The engineer is both a scientist and a businessman .The engineer as a part of large bureaocratic organization.
Least appealing:- AIME almost entirely, identified with the view that the engineer is a technical employee.Even so, at that time ethics was viewed as a personal rather than a broad professional concern.AIEE adopted theirs in 1912. ASCE and ASME did so in 1914. AIME did not adopt a code of ethics in its history.
