    1. Highlight at least 3 things that occurred at each stage.  

    2. If you did not experience every stage (eg: Adjourning), describe how going through that phase COULD have helped.

It is important to have understanding about five stages of group development as it helps leaders to know appropriate leadership style to implement in each stage. This further helps in developing the framework for determining the best strategy that will help in achieving team goals.

Our group moved through the five stages of Group Development in the following manner:

Forming

Leader clearly specified group objectives and expectations from each member. In this stage individual members stated their individual requirements and strengths. Respect for individual needs was developed in every member.

Storming

Personalities of group members were beginning to clash in this stage. Many disagreements and cross concerns started to develop in this stage. At this stage our leader structured activities. It was made clear that what role an individual member is expected to play. Group discussions became regular activity to determine best options.

Norming

Every member started to work towards achieving group objectives by realizing their individual strengths. Members started to work more responsibly as a cohesive unit. Leader contributed by providing feedbacks in this stage.

Performing

In this stage every member of the group was contributing by taking initiative and responsibility of performing the task that is best suited as per their strength. Every member was encouraging and supporting each other in achieving group goals. The likelihood of meeting the goal was increased to significant level.

Adjourning

After the objective was achieved and before departing of team, all the members reviewed and evaluated the learning from this activity.

I have witnessed all the five stages of group development. This helped me in enhancing my skills and contributing towards achievement of a common objective.
