Expert Solution

Though technology in health care systems has many benefits and uses in healthcare system for diagnosis, treatment and prevention, using technology is also dangerous to patients because of the following reasons

  • The first cause is alarm fatigue, the medical equipment are provided with alarm and when the task completed the alarm rings. With this the care givers wont be there observing the patient keenly and may be interacting with other patients, in such cases there are chances for care giver not to listen to it and he might miss appropriate action
  • Usage of CT and X-ray expose patients to radiation
  • During infusion, the pumps are set by digital entry of doses and this might result in an error due to mistyping and cause threat to patient
  • Several medical equipment are used for many patients, if those are not cleaned properly they will result in contamination
  • With these improper use of medical equipment and their power supply might cause surgical fires (on average 600 surgical fires per year in US)
  • There is severe risk from use of anaesthetics inappropriately
  • Many patients use medical equipment in homes, but they lack complete knowledge of those and it might be a risk
  • MIsconnecting the tubes, catheters will allow gases to enter.
