B. Virulence of bacteria

C. Host Resistance

D. All of the Above

E. None of the Above

B. When critical colonization/infection has resolved, use of antimicrobial dressings should be discontinued.

C. Use of antimicrobial dressings should be reviewed every 2 to 3 weeks.

D. Discontinue using antimicrobial dressings if no benefits have been demonstrated after 2 to 4 weeks of treatment.

A. Wound colonization

B. Localized wound infection

C. Spreading wound infection

D. Systemic wound infection

5. Proper technique for performing a wound culture includes:

A. Cleansing the wound and applying antibiotic cream prior to swabbing

B. Swabbing the area with the largest collection of exudate

C. Culturing the site beneath crusts, which have been removed

D. All of the above

E. None of the above

Solutions

Expert Solution

1.Delayed wound healing is due to the following factors : host resistance, virulence of the organism, any comorbidities of the patient like diabetes. Hence the answer is option (D) all of the above.

2.In an exudative wound, the aim of dressing is to absorb the exudate and reduce the soakage. For this purpose material like Poly Hexa Methylene Biguanide (PHMB) can be used. Hence the answer is option (A) PHMB.

3.The false statement is option (B) When critical colonization /infection has resolved, use of antimicrobial dressings should be discontinued. In the infected wound antimicrobial dressing is necessary. When it has resolved, it should not stop abruptly, give it for a period of time until one or two consecutive cultures become negative.

4.Pain,crepitus,wound breakdown in a non healing wound is suggestive of spreading wound infection. Hence the answer is option (C) spreading wound infection.

Nephritis is a condition in which the kidney becomes inflamed due to an infection, an allergic reaction to medication or an autoimmune response. There are two types of neprhitis: glomerulonephritis – where the glomeruli become damaged by inflammation, and tubulointerstitial or interstitial nephritis – where the tubules are damaged by inflammation. In both cases, normal renal (nephron) function is compromised. 1. First, explain how the nephrons of the kidney normally function to adjust the composition of the blood and produce...
