inhalers are medical device , used to deliver medication to the lungs , especially for the treatment of asthma.

there are three main types of inhaiers they are ;

*metered dose inhaler or MDI

*dry powder inhaler or DPI

* soft mist inhaler or SMI

Metered dose inhaler

it mainly contains 3 parts ; a mouthpiece, a cap that goes over the mouthpiece , a canister full of medicine. in adition to these a spacer device can be connect to mouth piece which help to administer medication effectively without wastage.

How to use MDI with spacer - procedure

. remove the cap from the inhaler and spacer

. shake the inhaler 10 to 15 times before use.

. connect spacer to the inhaler.

.exhale gently in order to empty the lungs.

. place mouth piece between teeth and close the lips to ensure good seal.

. breath out slowly , in to the spacer.

. keep the spacer horizontal and firmiy press down on the inhaler canister.

. take slow and deep breath.

. hold breath for 10-15 sec, remove spacer from mouth.

. breath out gently.

. if second dose is needed wait for 1-2 mins for second dose.

. clean the device and replace the caps on the inhaler and spacer.

. rinse the mouth with water.
