Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) refers to set of methods in which parties having dispute can resolve their issue without any third 'institutional' party, or without under the structure of lawsuit. No litigation is filed in court, there is no trial and the issue is resolved by both parties mutually interacting and coming under agreement at the end. These are mothod which are outside the area of the conventional law structure, and are entertained to reduce the burden on courts.

All the other options are under the law structure. ADR have atleat four types - negotiations, meditations, collaborative law and arbitration. Arbitration is also considered as a method to resolve the dispute or issue, outside of the court or judicial system. In this method, the dispute will be addressed and decided by one or more persons aka the arbitrators. The arbitrator legally binds the disagreed parties in the end. It is usually used to to resolve the commerical disputes.
