¾ strength Ensure 800 mL by NG tube over 8 hours. How much solvent is needed to make this solution: ____________________________________________________________________________
List three methods of insulin administration: ____________________________________________________________________________
Given,
3/4 strength of 800ml by NG tube to infuse over 8 hours.
Strength= 3/4
Total volume of solution = 800 ml
Now, Total volume of solution = volume of solute/ strength
or, volume of solute = total volume of solution × strength
= 800 ml × 3/4
= 600 ml
So, volume of solvent is to be added =total volume of solution - volume of solute
=(800-600)ml
= 200 ml
Therefore, 200 ml solvent is needed to make this solution.
Three methods of insulin administration:-
1. Insulin injection :- It is given subcutaneously During meal time. It controls high blood sugar in diabetes patient.
2. Insulin pumps:- It is a computerized device which attaches to the body by a small needle inserting into the skin. It is used as an alternative to insulin injection. It mimic the function of human pancreas. Insulin is supplied to the diabetes patient through this device subcutaneously.
3. Inhaled insulin:- It is also alternative of insulin injection. It is inhaled immediately before meal. Inhaled insulin is a powdered form of insulin which is delivered with an inhaler into the lungs. It works more rapidly than insulin injection.
