Qu. 5. a) List the components of a generic electron transport chain in the correct order
b) List the components of an electron transport chain used in aerobic respiration in the correct order
c) List the components of an electron transport chain used in anaerobic respiration in the correct order

Solutions

Expert Solution

A. Electron transport chain is a series of reaction occurring one after the other which results in the transfer of electrons from one electron carrier to the other. It occurs in inner mitochondrial membrane during cellular respiration and also during photosynthesis in thylakoid membrane.

The components are as follows -

Primary electron donor

Electron carriers which also pump protrons

Final electron acceptor

B. NADH reductase, succinate dehydrogenase, cytochrome bc1, cytochrome c oxidase

C. There is no ETC in anaerobic respiration.
