The Constitution gives Congress the authority to impeach and remove "The President, Vice President, and all civil officers of the United States" upon a determination that such officers have engaged in treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.
Three presidents have been impeached in U.S. history: Andrew Johnson in 1868, Bill Clinton in 1998, and Donald Trump in 2019
How the Impeachment Process Could Play Out
The House of Representatives
Any member of the House may initiate impeachment proceedings at any time. This is done by presenting the list of charges under oath or going to a committee. According to the US Constitution, impeachable offenses include Treason , High crime etc.
Six House committees are expected to continue investigating President Trump on impeachable offenses and to send their strongest cases to the Judiciary Committee.
