United states constitution prescribes separation of power among various agencies and wings of the government. Each has its domain and mandate and has to work within that. System of checks and balances ensure that no one breaches his defined territory and encroach powers of other body.
Congress and President
With the Congress debating on impeachment motion of president Trump, once again the power tussle between congress and President has come to the surface.
The present relations has not been smooth with Trump acting like a superman taking all decisions by himself and ignoring the Congress.
Despite Congress has a major role in deciding foreign policy , it's the executive that has been controlling it. Be it the decision to unilaterally discard Iran nuclear deal or initiate talks with North Korea, it has been the veto of the president .
Even in economic scenario, Congress is finding it tough to keep the executive in loop. Trump ditched the TPP deal and started trade war with China. It also rejected the Healthcare bill hailed as Obama care which the Congress had passed .
Trump decision to sideline Congress and get funds for border wall by declaring national emergency has again intensified this power struggle.
It is being said that Congress have delegated far more powers to the president and now must get them back. Fighting terrorism and safeguarding United States has given tremendous powers to the president and he can take any decision under its excuse.
In short, with a president as assertive as Trump, the Congress finds its powers depleted and is struggling to tilt the balance of power in its side.
