What are sorts of problems, challenges, and limitations are you finding in organizational development; both now and projected into the future? What sort of impact will these have on healthcare organizations?
In organizational development, there are quite a few problems, challenges, and limitations that we are facing today and will be facing in the future too. First we will talk about the problems. These problems can be broadly categorized into five points. The very first issue is the problem of blending the ideas, opinions and views of totally different personalities into a collective decision. Only this problem give rises to two different limitations in organizational development that are time consumption in the process and difficulty in evaluating, responding and mainting the efficiency of the organization. Another problem is ineffective communication and delayed feedback accross various channels which creates a challenge of limited information exchange and lost pattern of collaboration. Another major problem in organizational development is the lack of success in establishing key competencies within the organization which raises a big challenge in determining if the proposed organizational model would be able to deliver the intended outcome or not. Lack of proper and clear direction to different individuals in the system is another major problem in organizational development which results in inappropriate estimation of time and resources required to achieve the goal.
These problems will have a major impact on the effectiveness and efficiency of the healthcare organizations. Key competencies are very important aspect in healthcare setting failing to which can result in poor oraganization behavior, ineffective collaboration among professionals and patients, substandard professionalism and bad patient outcomes. Without resolving these issues during the organizational development process can result in poor anticipation, initiation, implementation and management of proposed strategies and action plans which will ultimetly affect the quality of care as well as individual growth, performance and productivity of the organization.
