Is the increase in substance abuse and/or drinking in college
age women attributed to increase in sexual assaults of women? In
other words, are more women likely to be assaulted due to an
impairment in judgement which is frequently brought on by SA
behaviors?
Is the lack of reporting to authorities amongst college women
attributed to fear of being excluded from the “group” or fear of
stigmatization.
The role of substance abuse and/or drinking alcohol in sexual assaults of college age women :-
Few research suggests that the chances of sexual assault increases when the college age women are drunk or are under the influence of a substance abuse and the risk of getting harassed when taken alcohol or any sort of drugs increases by almost double. Many researchers define the word ‘sexual harassment’ to describe the complete range of forced sexual acts which includes touching or kissing forcefully, vaginal, acts of anal and oral dissemination done forcefully.
Why Victims Aware of Sexual Assault Did Not Report
Fear and embarrassment--- one of the main reasons of not reporting to the authorities is the fear of being excluded from the group or/and embarrassment of social stigma tabooed upon. Sometimes the victims don’t report because they think that they will not be believed and then will not be supported
Alcohol and/or Involvement of substances - Victims under the influence of alcohol or drugs don’t report because they conceptualize a different theory of the sexual harassment and then place less blame on the perpetrators and more blame on themselves. Some of the victims also think that the authorities to whom they will be reporting will not take the situation seriously when assaulted
