reflection paper on your overall lessons learned in the financial management course.
Financial management is very wide and huge course and tries to cover almost all important topics related to Finance. It is a managerial activity which is concern with the planning and controlling of the firm' s financial resources.
It was a branch of economics till 1890 and as a seperate discipline, it is of recent origin.
It is a subject of immense interest to both academicians and practising managers. The topics covered in this subject include strategic financing decisions such as capital structure and dividend policy; tactical financing decisions such as IPOs, financial restructuring and lease financing; short-term financial management; such as cash, inventory and receivables management and some special topics such as risk management, bankruptcy, reorganization and liquidation, corporate mergers, and multinational financial management.
I learnt my favourite one topic Valuation; which covered important topics like; Time Preference for Money, Present and Future Value of cash flow,NPV and IRR, valuation of Bonds and Shares and P/E Ratio and overall market theory of Capital market.
Capital market is a very interesting topic; it is complete explanation of shares, bonds and equities . You would be able to understand the all minute details of share market. Which companies' share performing well and how to take a wise decision for investing after observing historical and sentimental analysis. What is role of P/E Ratio in taking Investment decision.
Then Beta estimation a one most important topic in valuation. The logic introduces the concept of diversifiable risk and non-diversifiable risk.
Options, call and put and trading in options are also included in valuation
Then Dividend Decision is also very important topic comes under the course, which is very important for investors as well as companies. Under Dividend theory, Walter' s model, Gordon's model.
Under Dividend policy some topics like;share split, buyback of shares are covered.
Under Long term financing shares, debentures, mutual funds, term loans , project financing are covered.
Under Financial and Profit Analysis, we learn to make P/L account and Balance Sheet. Balance Sheet is helpful in analysing companies' financial performance.
So, as I mentioned FM is not only a course it is a complete picture of financial world which is very very lucrative for those who are planning to make a career in the field of finance.
Since, I am a finance professional and experienced in investment banking. I learnt all about capital market, money market . I am still learning the subject and new updates which is quite helpful in my career. I learnt about shares, debentures, future which helps in my profession. Being a investment banker, I analyse whether I should invest in particular share or not. P/E ratios self explanatory gives the conclusion that money should be invested in the market or not.
If P/E ratios of nifty/equity is high or near to 20-22,then we should not invest. This understanding came in me after learningFinancial management. So, it is very much useful in my profession too.
