Expert Solution

The correct option is the 4th one (Inulin).

Inulins are a class of polysaccharides. These are polymers of fructose (beta 2,1.glycosidic bond). These are found in root or rhizomes of many plants like Dahlia and Asparagus. It contains indigestible fibre. These indigestible polysaccharide fibres get settled in gut and later on digested by intestinal microflora. .Inulin improves growth of good ntestinal bacteria, Hence, improves gut health. Inulin is also used to measure glomerular filteration rate of kidney. Therefore, inulin is good prebiotic food for intestinal health.

ist option (Rhizosphere) is incorrect. It is soil area which surrounds the plant root. We can't consume soil as it contains many pathogenic bacteria as well. Hence, this option is incorrect.

2nd option (Rifampicin) is also incorrect. It is an antibiotic. So, it will rather kill the intestinal microflora. Hence, this option is also incorrect.

3rd option (Xenobiotic)- It is any type of synthetic chemical which is new or foreign for body including gut microflora. Ingestion of xenobiotic compound will also not improve gut microflora. Hence, this option is also incorrect.

fifth option (Dapsone) is also incorrect- Dapsone is also an antibiotic. So, again it will not improve but rather degrade intestinal microflora population. Hence, this option is also incorrect.

6th option (Wolbachia)- is also incorrect- It is a gram negative bacteria which infects Arthropods. It also infects filarial nematodes and increases their pathogenicity for humans. So, it will be dangerous to consume it for humans. Hence, this option is also incorrect.

7th option (Fomite) is also incorrect- Fomites are objects like bedding, clothes and hair which, after being contaminated by pathogens, can help the contaminants finding a new host. Therefore, fomites help in spreading the disease. Fomites are dead objects. Consuming fomites will in no way lead to improvement of gut microflora. Hence, this option is also incorrect.

Through Next-Generation Sequencing, we have learned a lot about the human gut microbiome, including community demographics, establishment of the microbiome and microbiome stability. Design a study to determine the effects of daily kombucha consumption on gut microbiome composition and function. Be sure to describe the model system, controls, types of data to be collected, methods of data analysis, and limitations of the study. Also indicate whether the data you gather will provide correlative or causative evidence of the effects of...
