your colleague suggests using mark and recapture to track the invasive species population in the ecosystem. do you think this is a good idea? brielfy justify your stance

Expert Solution

Answer-

Using mark and recapture to track the invasive species population in the ecosystem is a good idea as invasive species are threat to ecology. They destroy the onvironment and also diaturb ecological balance.

To decide that the given statement is good idea, first we should understand role or effect of invasive species.

An invasive species is an introduced organism that is not native to an area and causes ecological and economic damage in their new environment. While all invasive species are exotic species(non-native species that are introduced into a new area), many exotic species never become invasive species (for example, most of our vegetable plants that we cultivate in our gardens are essentially exotic species that never become invasive).

However, many exotics species have become invasive around the world, resulting in a great deal of environmental and economic damage.

Invasive species can outcompete native species, kill native plants and trees, destroy habitat, and over-predate native species within a particular area, potentially throwing an entire ecosystem out of balance. Invasive species can threaten the biodiversity of an ecosystem, especially if native species are outcompeted or entirely driven to extinction.

Thus we can say the Idea suggested by colleague is very good and ia in the favour of ecology.

Pine rockland is an endangered ecosystem found only in South Florida. Invasive plant species threaten pine rockland by out competing the native plants and providing no nutritional value to native wildlife. The largest tract of pine rockland in Everglades National Park is at Long Pine Key. Should human beings be considered a nonnative (invasive species) or a "keystone species?" In your explanation please use at least one example of a nonnative species to and one example of a "keystone" species to help illustrate your point. Show why humans do or don't act as invasive or keystone species. Use specific behaviors and impacts in your answers. Limit your response to no more than 500 words.

An invasive species from maize crops comes into contact with a population. It has been measured that 200,000 plants remain on the second day and 90,000 plants remain on the fifth day. a) What was the number of plants when the invasive species entered? b) Crop insurance will pay for total losses when only 5% of the amount of plants remains. How long should it take for farmers to claim their insurance?
