Ted finds out that he has been exposed to measles. He goes to see the doctor. The physician orders a blood test for antibody titers. The result reveals an elevated IgM titer, but a very low IgG titer. Has Ted contracted the disease?. Explain
Measles is caused by measles virus and the infection remains mild. Its early symptoms includes fever greater than 104.0 °F, running nose and red eyes. our body defence system makes antibodies against measles virus antigen. In early stage of the infection IgM antibody level is high and IgG antibody level is low. so Ted is in early stage of the infection, if his body immune system is strong enough to fight against the measles virus then Ted will not get the disease otherwise he will develope the measles. The presence of IgM antibody indicate the initial phase of infection while the presence of IgG antibody indicate intial (recent) or past measles infection.
