Administer heparin 1000 units/hr from and I.V. bag mixed with 40000 units in 1 L of D5W.    What is the rate in mL/Hr that should be delivered to give the correct dose of heparin?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Rate in ml/hr

The order here is 1000units of heparin over 1 hr.so we have to calculate how much ml needed for this 1000unit heparin in 1 hr.

In 1000L, 40000units of heparin. so in one ml we can do division.

In 'X' ml 1000units

ie. 40000units 1000ml 1000units X ml

40=1000X

40X= 1000

X=100040

X=25

The Answer is 25ml/hr needed to transfuse 1000units/hr.
