Do you think that minimum wage and Welfare work well in our society?
choose whether you think a functionalist perspective or a conflict perspective better explains the existence of minimum wage and welfare, use it to analyze both concepts and provide evidence to support your answer.
In my opinion, minimum wage helps
lots of employees because minimum wage is determined taking the
minimum expenses that would occur to live a decent life in a
country. It's also to regulate the private companies who otherwise
would exploit people from economically backward classes.
Functionalism is a concept that views society as a system of
various interconnected parts that function in harmony to ensure the
smooth running of the society. Conflict theory on the other hand
views societya system with limited resources for which there is
always a struggle between the members, especially classes of the
society. It also states that most of the time society functions by
per and domination rather than consensus and conformity
In my point of view, functionalist theory explains the minimum wage
issue because different types people live in a society but in order
for all of them to live in harmony, there is a system called
government that regulates things between different groups. Thus
maintaining a minimum wage in order to provide a decent living to
the poor class becomes essential who otherwise would disturb the
smooth functioning of the society by moving themselves away from
the mainstream society through deviant behaviours.
