After reviewing the various theories of nursing, reflect on your personal philosophy of nursing. Discuss the major theorists who influenced you and identify the elements you incorporate into your philosophy.
The sole philosophy of nursing states that our thoughts should be what we believe in and must move forward with it. My total ideology of philosophy has always been incorporated from the standard philosophies described. Some of the elements i might include in my philosophy are Humanism, idealism, naturalism, theistic realism and pragmatism.
Humanism is a broad category of ethical philosophies that acertain the dignity and worth of people and it is also based on a human's intellectual ability to differentiate between bad and good. The influencers include famous personalities like socrates, plato , aristotle , corliss lamont etc.
Idealism is a group of philosophies that acertain the reality as we know it is. This philosophy holds good in nursing practice, nursing education, nursing research, nursing behaviour etc. The major influencers include gorge bakeley, David hume, Emmanuel kant, R.Fith .
Naturalism is the oldest known philosophy in the western world. It asserts that natural laws are tge the rules that govern the structure and behaviour of natural universe. The principles of double effect and totality are the major chunk of it. The major influencers include Thomas Aquinas and Thales.
Theistic realism is a philosophy based on the idea that God is real, acts in the universe, and is knowable through senses and intellect. Naturalism tells us universe is self explanatory while theistic realism tells us it can only be expalined with reference to god. People like paul, Phillip johnson, Gerard Glutek influenced it.
Pragmatism is defined as a way to approach situations or clearing problems which emphasis on practical applications. Ideology of pragmatism is the basic influence to education, practice and behaviour of nursing.
These are the major theorists and their philosophies which inculcated the very root of nursing in me and to spread the joy and hospitality of professional nursing.
