When we studied Organizational Behavior Modification we learned about the four types of consequences that impact motivation - Positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, punishment and extinction. Explain each of these consequences and provide an example for each of how they can motivate an employee in the workplace.
Ans- Reinforcement is a term used in context of analysis of behaviour and kind of intentional behaviour, basic example of such behaviour includes speed with wich a switch is flipped after a certain noise is sounded , there are majorly two types of reinforcement
Positive Reinforcement- Giving a desired reward when a behaviour is performed to increase how often the person repeats behaviour, we see examples in our daily life official as well as personal , mother gives sweets to child to complete homework , manager distributes movie tickets to staff who achive target.
Negative Reinforcement- Removal of unpleasent condition when behaviour is performed to increase and how often the rhaviour is repeated, for example quieting a constant unpleasantly loud noise when a rat pushes a button .
Punishment- is imposition of a negative consequence with the goal of reducing or stopping someone undesirable behaviour, it can be used in a business context to , for example prevent employees from doing something the manager consider undesirable or wrong
Extinction- is formally defined as omission of previously delivered unconditioned reinforces, but it can also describe the absence of a contingency between response and reinforce. For example if a child do not want to go to school and mother provides him toys and sweets this is an act of reinforcing poor behaviour.
